Socks to bed. Heater on. Still can’t warm up.
In Chinese medicine, this kind of cold is bone deep. Kidney Yang is the body’s deep internal warmth. It drives circulation, digestion, drainage and energy. When it runs low, layering alone won’t fix it (though a tropical holiday might! 🌴).
Signs it might be more than the season: cold hands and feet even indoors, waking tired, a dull lower back ache, digestion that slows in the cold, feeling worse in the morning and better by afternoon.
Winter is Kidney season. It draws on that deep warmth more than any other time of year.
What helps: warm cooked foods, ginger and cinnamon in your cooking, keeping the lower back and feet warm, early to bed (screens off by 8pm) and moxibustion/infrared therapy for direct warmth where it’s needed.
